It’s been one year since Japan was hit by a 9.0 magnitude earthquake followed by a devastating tsunami in which 16 to 20 thousand people were killed. As we hear these numbers, we are slowly growing numb to what that really means. They aren’t just numbers. They represent real families, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, sons and daughters. People that were violently torn from their family. I can only imagine the feeling, of a Japanese man, as water filled his home, and the horror that comes with the sound of it breaking apart. I imagine him running to get his family, and as he reaches for them he is forever haunted by the image of them being swept away never to be seen again.
They aren’t just numbers. They are people. People with friends, memories, and laughter. The part that continually weighs on my heart is the thought of their standing with God. Where are they now? Chances are, they were either followers of Shinto or Buddha. In which they would try to follow the four noble truths. Both beliefs boil down to works, as do all religions. What do you believe? Do you believe the Bible? Ephesians 2:8-9, Titus 3:5, Isaiah 64:6, Hebrews 10:1, Galatians 2:16 and so many more verses show that no amount of working/doing can earn favor with God. We have all sinned. We are guilty before a righteous judge, and our so called good works don’t even come close. We have not worshiped God alone. We have all lied, lusted, hated, and deserted God. Those that died faced God. The supreme judge. There is no sin He does not see. No wickedness that He will let go unpunished. You may not like it. You may hate it, but ultimately your opinion will not change all powerful God, the creator of all things. You will stand humbled and afraid of God. Your excuses and lies will fall so short of His righteousness. This is what brings me to tears, because I do believe the Bible, that those Japanese people that died in their sins are in hell today, and have been there for over a year now. They have been burning in fire, but never consumed. They crave relief and will never receive. They are forever tortured by the thought of their rejection of God. I can imagine their screams of repentance and regret, but it is too late. It is too late for them. OH, THAT WE WOULD HAVE CARED ENOUGH TO TELL THEM! We live our lives consumed by greed and selfishness! How lazy we are! Jesus Christ died on a cross to pay for their sins. He died for them. God was not willing for them to perish! How long will we play this game of Christianity! We have houses, cars, jobs, pets, tv, internet, and all the joys of this world, and that is our focus. THAT IS OUR PASSION. Our entertainment. If it sounds like I’m angry, I AM. I’m fed up with people going to hell. I’m fed up with selfish Christians who hold the truth and never tell another! I’m tired of people yelling about revival and never willing to sacrifice! Our God died for them, and we have said in our hearts, “TO HELL WITH THEM!” WE SPEND MORE MONEY ON PORN THAN GETTING THE GOSPEL OUT! WE CARE MORE ABOUT OUR PETS THAN THE LOST! They have rejected God, and as the children of God we have done little to nothing about it. How many more must die? 2Pet. 3:9 The Lord is …not willing that ANY should perish, but that ALL should come to repentance.
