Lord of Mercies

by

Zech. 1:12, 13 & 16 Then the angel of the LORD answered and said, O LORD of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years? And the LORD answered the angel that talked with me with good words and comfortable words. …Therefore thus saith the LORD; I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies: my house shall be built in it, saith the LORD of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth upon Jerusalem.

Israel has forsaken the Lord so many times, and yet He is ever merciful.

In this passage, Israel is being held captive by The Persian Empire. Israel was blessed by the Lord, and was the greatest of all nations. As the Lord was good to them, they turned from God to idols, and God let them wallow in their sin. Israel enjoyed their sin for a season, but now they endure the outcome of their sin.

Isn’t our God awesome!? At the moment we are facing the reality of our sin, God comes and speaks comfortably to us!

We all are sinners and we face the penalty of our sins, but Christ came and died on the cross. He paid for our sins rescuing us from the wrath to come! This mercy is offered to all. We just need to believe that Christ was and is enough to rescue us from our sins!

The trial of the Judge

by

Recently I’ve heard people wonder why God was letting bad things happen around the world and to them personally. We could discuss many things here about God’s omnipotence, wrath, judgement, mercy or grace, but after reading Nahum 1 today I’m reminded of the principle thing.

Nahum 1:7 The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.

I think the Lord faces more judgement than anyone. His character and love is daily put on trial. We judge whether or not He is good or loving. He is good! He has always been good! He is a strong hold, and I trust Him!

God has blessed us so much! He has given us grace when we deserved judgement! Isn’t it time we stopped trying God? Regardless of what may happen in my life, The LORD is good!
